Barangay secretaries and treasurers sat down at the Computer Laboratory of Cagayan State University (CSU) Solana-Lara Campus on October 16–17, 2026, to learn practical skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.

The two-day Training Workshop on Microsoft Office Proficiency was held under the theme “Building Digital Competence for Efficient and Effective Barangay Governance.” It focused on document preparation and presentation development, tools the university said can help barangay offices deliver public service more efficiently.

“Together, let us continue bridging the digital skills gap and building more capable, responsive and empowered communities through education and technology,” Ms. Maria Bernadette M. De La Cruz said in her opening message.
Meanwhile, resource speakers and faculty members led the sessions, assisted by students from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program.

The activity is part of the campus’s continuing efforts to promote digital literacy, lifelong learning and community engagement by helping local government personnel keep pace with an increasingly digital workplace.

The workshop is aligned with four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education), through skills-based training that promotes lifelong learning; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), by raising workplace productivity and professional competencies; SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), by supporting more efficient and accountable barangay governance; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by strengthening collaboration between the university and local communities.
