In a significant step toward advancing agricultural development, Cagayan State University (CSU) Solana-Lara and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice Isabela) formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 18, 2024. The agreement marked the launch of the "RiceUp: Unleashing the Potential of Cagayan’s Rice Bowl" extension program, which aims to equip farmers and students with innovative and improved farming techniques.

The MOU signing took place at DA-PhilRice Isabela in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela, with CSU represented by Campus Executive Officer Dr. Ma. Haidee A. Mabborang and DA-PhilRice Isabela led by Branch Director Joy Bartolome A. Duldulao. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the Cagayan Valley.

Dr. Mabborang emphasized the importance of the program in addressing the evolving needs of the agricultural sector. “The RiceUp program is a manifestation of our dedication to empowering farmers with modern knowledge and skills, enabling them to adapt to the challenges of today’s agricultural landscape. Through this partnership, we aim to create a ripple effect of innovation that begins with our students and extends to the farming communities,” she said.

CSU will spearhead the program's implementation by organizing training sessions, workshops, and community-based activities, while DA-PhilRice Isabela will provide the necessary technical expertise and resource speakers to ensure the program’s success.

The RiceUp program aims to foster long-term growth by disseminating practical and innovative agricultural knowledge. Dr. Mabborang further highlighted the program’s impact: “This initiative is not just about farming techniques; it’s about building resilient communities equipped to sustain their livelihood and contribute to the nation’s food security.”

With the combined efforts of CSU and DA-PhilRice, the RiceUp program is poised to create a lasting legacy of progress, cultivating a brighter and more sustainable future for the agricultural sector in the Cagayan Valley.
