In a bid to enhance local governance and promote sustainable development, the Cagayan State University (CSU) Solana-Lara Campus successfully conducted a two-day seminar-workshop on November 20 and 22, 2024. This initiative was part of the flagship program “Justice Enhancement, Technology, Education, and Agriculture Sustainability (JETEAS),” spearheaded by the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS). The program provided comprehensive digital training for barangay officials of Iraga, Solana, Cagayan, equipping them with practical skills in Microsoft Office applications to improve governance efficiency.

Campus Executive Officer Engr. Ma. Haidee A. Mabborang highlighted the university's commitment to building sustainable communities through technological capacity-building initiatives. “Our goal is to empower local leaders by equipping them with essential tools for modern governance. By fostering digital proficiency, we enable barangay officials to address community challenges with greater transparency, efficiency, and innovation,” she stated during the workshop’s opening ceremony.

Resource speakers Ms. Chrissa P. Dayag and Mr. Jayrald S. Naraja designed interactive, hands-on sessions tailored to the needs of local government operations. The participants were trained to utilize Microsoft Word for drafting official documents, PowerPoint for creating professional presentations, and Excel for managing payroll systems. These skills are expected to significantly enhance administrative processes, data management, and communication within barangay offices.

Ms. Dayag, emphasizing the relevance of the training, remarked, “Incorporating technology into local governance is not just an advantage—it’s a necessity. This workshop ensures that barangay officials are equipped to meet the demands of an increasingly digital world while maintaining a focus on public service.”

Mr. Naraja added, “Through this program, we are bridging the gap between traditional governance practices and modern technological tools. The hands-on approach allows participants to immediately apply what they learn, ensuring impactful results.”

The program’s success was further bolstered by the active involvement of the campus administration, faculty, and student leaders, creating a collaborative learning environment that encouraged immediate application of the tools and techniques.

Reflecting on the workshop’s impact, one of the barangay officials expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the training provided practical solutions to everyday administrative challenges.

Engr. Mabborang concluded the program by reiterating CSU Solana-Lara’s dedication to community development. “This is just the beginning. Our partnership with barangays will continue to evolve, as we aim to strengthen local governance through technology, education, and collaboration. Together, we can achieve a higher standard of public service.”

The success of the JETEAS initiative reaffirms CSU Solana-Lara’s commitment to fostering sustainable progress in local communities by promoting digital literacy, accountability, and innovation in governance.
