In a proactive move to promote safer road practices, the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) at Cagayan State University (CSU) Solana-Lara Campus launched its extension training program titled “Road Safety for All: Protection Across All Road Users” on November 26, 2024. The program, aimed at barangay leaders of Iraga, Solana, Cagayan, highlighted the importance of traffic regulation compliance, defensive driving, and accident prevention in enhancing community safety.
The training featured engaging lectures and discussions led by the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), represented by Police Executive Master Sergeants (PEMS) Jonathan P. Baccay and Ralston F. Juan. With expertise in traffic management and road safety enforcement, the speakers provided valuable insights on defensive driving techniques, the proper use of safety equipment, and adherence to traffic laws. Participants were also given the opportunity to address their concerns during an interactive Q&A session, fostering an open dialogue on the shared responsibility of ensuring safer roads.
In her welcome address, Campus Executive Officer Engr. Ma. Haidee A. Mabborang stressed the role of education in community welfare. “Road safety is a shared responsibility that begins with awareness. This program is not just about preventing accidents but also about building a culture of discipline, accountability, and care for one another on the road,” she said, underscoring the significance of the initiative.
Dean Maricel S. Palo of CCJE echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of law enforcement and local leaders in fostering safer transportation systems. “By equipping our barangay leaders with the necessary knowledge and tools, we empower them to lead their communities in advocating for road safety. This initiative demonstrates our collective commitment to creating a safer and more responsible society,” she remarked.
Participants expressed appreciation for the practical and insightful training, noting its relevance to addressing road safety issues in their barangay. The program concluded with a renewed commitment from the CCJE to further expand the scope of their extension activities. “This training is just the beginning of a larger effort to make road safety an integral part of community development. We aim to implement additional programs that will sustain the impact of this initiative,” Engr. Mabborang added.
By fostering collaboration between academic institutions, law enforcement agencies, and local communities, CSU Solana-Lara continues to demonstrate its unwavering dedication to community-focused outreach programs, emphasizing the value of education and proactive engagement in solving real-world challenges.
