Cagayan State University (CSU) Solana-Lara Campus officially joined the nationwide 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) with a meaningful program held during the campus flag ceremony on November 25, 2024. Faculty members, administrative staff, and students came together to show their steadfast support for the advocacy, reflecting a united front in fostering a society free from violence and inequality.

Campus Executive Officer Dr. Ma. Haidee A. Mabborang underscored the critical importance of initiatives like this campaign in driving meaningful change. “Ending violence is not just a goal; it is a responsibility that we must collectively uphold. This campaign reminds us that through awareness, advocacy, and action, we can create a future where women and children live without fear, and human dignity is universally respected,” she said.

Organized by the campus’ Gender and Development (GAD) unit, the event also encouraged participants to wear orange every Wednesday during the campaign period from November 25 to December 12, 2024. The symbolic gesture aligns with the global movement advocating for the elimination of violence and discrimination.

Ms. Chrissa P. Dayag, GAD Focal Person, expressed her gratitude for the campus community’s involvement and highlighted the campaign’s significance. “This initiative is not just a call to action; it is a commitment to building a safer, more compassionate world. Wearing orange is a simple but powerful reminder of our shared resolve to stand against violence,” she remarked.

As part of its sustained efforts, the campus will host a seminar on the Anti-Violence and Safe Spaces Act at the campus gymnasium. The seminar, specifically tailored for first-year students, aims to deepen their understanding of the laws protecting women and children while empowering them to advocate for safe and inclusive spaces.

Dr. Mabborang called for continued engagement from the campus body, emphasizing the urgency of addressing violence. “Sama-sama nating wakasan ang VAWC, hindi bukas o sa makalawa, kundi ngayon na ang oras,” she concluded.

With collective commitment and action, CSU Solana-Lara Campus stands as a beacon of hope, striving for a world where violence is replaced by understanding, and every individual can thrive in peace and dignity.
